FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Cowboys. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Tim Smith at the 247th pick, roughly 26 spots before his name belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
It is not that Isaac is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Edgerrin Cooper
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 29. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick89
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Adisa Isaac at edge rusher with quarterback and tight end open.
Pick90
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 90 with a little surplus value in TreVeyon Henderson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at the 91st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Value said wait; Roman Wilson in pick No. 92 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
Max Melton
Max Melton at pick No. 126 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
A reach on Isaiah Adams in the 134th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick165
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
They paid up for LaDarius Henderson at the 165th pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jacob Cowing
They went early on Jacob Cowing in Round 6, Pick 2, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tim Smith
Tim Smith at slot 247 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
