Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Cowing from sliding. Grade: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Cowboys came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Cowing falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Walker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Edgerrin Cooper
In No. 31 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Taliese Fuaga
Taliese Fuaga at pick 33 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick84
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac in slot 84 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick89
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at pick No. 89 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in Round 3, Pick 27 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92
Rnd3
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 92nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Justin Rogers
The board had cheaper options than Justin Rogers at No. 126, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick131
Rnd4
James Williams
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at pick No. 131, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick134
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at slot 134 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
They went early on Jack Nelson in pick 165, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jacob Cowing
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Cowing at Round 6, Pick 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tyreek Chappell
Nothing to complain about; Tyreek Chappell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
