Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall A
ValueA NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
A passer of the future in Mestemaker, and a A, for the Dolphins.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Dolphins committed. Drew Mestemaker is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.

That Pieper pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Dolphins paired the rookies with proven help, Breece Hall leading the way.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Drew Mestemaker
In No. 24 they get the arm they will build around, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jordan Seaton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Seaton at slot 38. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick41 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Circle this one: Will Echoles at the 41st pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56 Rnd2 Clev Lubin
Clev Lubin in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ahmad Hardy
You do not let a running back like Ahmad Hardy reach pick No. 77 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104 Rnd4 Kade Pieper
The board fumbled Kade Pieper all the way to pick 104, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick113 Rnd4 Peter Clarke
Peter Clarke in Round 4, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140 Rnd5 Anthony Evans III
They read the board right and Anthony Evans III was the payoff at the 140th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick161 Rnd5 Nicholas Rodriguez
A tidy little value on Nicholas Rodriguez in pick No. 161, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Mateen Ibirogba
A slide stopped in the Round 6 slot, with Mateen Ibirogba worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241 Rnd7 Dylan Raiola
They barely believed it either: Dylan Raiola still on the board at pick 241. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick254 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
Payton Pierce in No. 254 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
