Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Jack Kelly at the 214th pick. The Steelers jumped the board by 47 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Allar at that price is a win they earned. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In the 21st overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value.
Pick53 Rnd2 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the 53rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter slipping to pick 76 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick85 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99 Rnd3 Kaytron Allen
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kaytron Allen. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A clean, defensible pick in slot 121 with a little surplus value in Bryce Lance. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They did well to land Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick 135, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick159 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Drew Allar at the 159th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jimmy Rolder
Jimmy Rolder in pick No. 213 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jack Kelly
Jack Kelly at No. 214 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci at slot 237 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
