Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Cowboys won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Jordan Davis in pick 189. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Monk makes the weekend a net positive.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick29 Rnd1 Ricky Pearsall
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a No. 1 receiver, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56 Rnd2 Marshawn Kneeland
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Marshawn Kneeland. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick73 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They reached a country mile for Zak Zinter at the 73rd pick, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
They jumped the gun on Curtis Jacobs, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jordan Davis
A wild overpay on Jordan Davis in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick216 Rnd6 Matthew Jones
A real head-scratcher, Matthew Jones in slot 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick233 Rnd7 DeVere Levelston
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeVere Levelston well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jacob Monk
They barely believed it either: Jacob Monk still on the board at pick No. 244. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
