Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Steelers, and a C+ to match.

The Steelers did not so much draft Logan Lee as overpay for him, 65 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Steelers indulged a want in Foster while a need in quarterback, safety and other spots stayed open.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

If Graham Barton and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Graham Barton
In pick 20 they get protection for the quarterback. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
They took Malachi Corley at par in the 51st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick84 Rnd3 Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips at the 84th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Javon Foster
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Javon Foster while clear needs at quarterback, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tommy Eichenberg. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Logan Lee
Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
They paid up for M.J. Devonshire at No. 195 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
