Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueA- NeedC TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chiefs, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody had DJ Vonnahme this high, and it is not close. The Chiefs reached 52 spots to get him at the Round 7 slot.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will answer for taking linebacker early while wide receiver and quarterback went begging.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa adds a linebacker and leaves wide receiver and quarterback untouched.
Pick63 Rnd2 Dashawn Spears
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Dashawn Spears while clear needs at wide receiver and quarterback sat open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the 84th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick95 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
They will replay Bear Alexander at No. 95 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132 Rnd4 Antwan Raymond
Antwan Raymond at pick 132 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick174 Rnd5 Adon Shuler
Adon Shuler in Round 5, Pick 36 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick178 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba slipping to No. 178 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick199 Rnd6 Drew Bobo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Drew Bobo in the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209 Rnd6 John Nestor
The board fumbled John Nestor all the way to the 209th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick248 Rnd7 Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis at Round 7, Pick 27 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick256 Rnd7 DJ Vonnahme
DJ Vonnahme at pick 256 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
