Draft Grade — Jaguars

TradesA+
FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Jaguars a B+. The Jaguars did not so much draft Akheem Mesidor as overpay for him, 166 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Winston Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at pick No. 17 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emeka Egbuka at the 36th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at pick 70 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
The board had Tate Ratledge higher than No. 88, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at slot 127 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick143
Rnd5
Dylan Sampson
Somehow Dylan Sampson was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick184
Rnd6
Kevin Winston Jr.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at the 184th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick196
Rnd6
CJ West
A wild overpay on CJ West in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick198
Rnd6
Antwane Wells Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 20 with a little surplus value in Antwane Wells Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick 223 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
