The Rams let White III fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Ricky White III had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 41, and the Rams did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Huzzie pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 31 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick95
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 31. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick101
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They barely believed it either: Ozzy Trapilo still on the board at No. 101. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Smael Mondon Jr.. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
Good price on Dorian Strong in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick187
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
They read the board right and Quincy Riley was the payoff at pick No. 187. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Fair-plus on Connor Colby, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick195
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 195th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick201
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West slid further than he should have, and slot 201 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick202
Rnd6
Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie at Round 6, Pick 26 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick257
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 257 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
