Draft Grade — Bengals

Grand theft in No. 194: the Bengals steal Eichenberg and grade out a D. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bengals started one anyway for Dylan Laube, 36 picks ahead of schedule. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Eichenberg steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The DeAndre Hopkins pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In the 18th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Tavion Sanders went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick49
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
They paid a round early for Ricky Pearsall in the 49th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick80
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
A tidy bit of business in pick 80, where Kiran Amegadjie graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the 97th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick115
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dylan Laube well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at pick No. 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick194
Rnd6
Tommy Eichenberg
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 194 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Myles Harden
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Myles Harden in slot 214, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237
Rnd7
Cornelius Johnson
Circle this one: Cornelius Johnson at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Austin Reed
They read the board right and Austin Reed was the payoff at pick 247. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
