FutureA+
The Dolphins let Viliamu-Asa fall into their laps, and walked away with a A. Somebody in the Round 3 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, the No. 14 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Every board in the league had Sorsby lower, and that gap is the story.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to Dylan Stewart, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Dylan Stewart
In No. 16 they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Carter Smith
Somehow Carter Smith was still sitting there in the 34th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40
Rnd2
Matayo Uiagalelei
Matayo Uiagalelei in pick No. 40 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick52
Rnd2
David Stone
They will replay David Stone at slot 52 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jamari Johnson
They barely believed it either: Jamari Johnson still on the board at the 65th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77
Rnd3
Brendan Sorsby
The board had cheaper options than Brendan Sorsby at Round 3, Pick 13, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98
Rnd3
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Steal is underselling it; Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at pick 98 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick105
Rnd4
Mario Craver
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Mario Craver graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Isaac Brown
Isaac Brown in pick 139 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke Montgomery
Circle this one: Luke Montgomery at pick No. 153 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170
Rnd5
Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba at No. 170 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181
Rnd6
Desmeal Leigh
Taking Desmeal Leigh in the 181st pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Amare Ferrell
Amare Ferrell in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247
Rnd7
Quay'sheed Scott
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Quay'sheed Scott in Round 7, Pick 26, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick255
Rnd7
Sheridan Wilson
No edge and no loss on Sheridan Wilson in the 255th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
