Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
The Commanders lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Kelby Collins a full 45 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
The Allar pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 11th pick they get a ballhawk on the back end, outstanding value to boot.
Pick45
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Fair-plus on Sonny Styles, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick71
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at the 71st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103
Rnd4
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at slot 103 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Derrick Moore in Round 4, Pick 11, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick115
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in pick 115 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in the 145th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick175
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Le'Veon Moss well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick187
Rnd6
Zane Durant
No edge and no loss on Zane Durant in pick No. 187; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick198
Rnd6
CJ Daniels
The board had CJ Daniels higher than the 198th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kelby Collins
They reached into another round for Kelby Collins, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
