Chris osman DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Seahawks did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jalin Conyers at the 234th overall pick is 141 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 18 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick50
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the 50th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick52
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech is a better player than Round 3, Pick 18 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92
Rnd3
Quinn Ewers
They took Quinn Ewers at par in slot 92, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in Round 5, Pick 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick175
Rnd5
DJ Giddens
They let DJ Giddens come to them and pounced at No. 175. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 223 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jalin Conyers
They reached a country mile for Jalin Conyers at slot 234, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
