FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Dolphins and Shuler: A. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Adon Shuler, the No. 123 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 26.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, with Cayden Green leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Cayden Green
In pick 30 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Yhonzae Pierre
You do not let an edge rusher like Yhonzae Pierre reach the 36th overall pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick47
Rnd2
Justin Scott
Justin Scott in the 47th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jamari Johnson
A tight end of that caliber at No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick67
Rnd3
Drew Mestemaker
Drew Mestemaker at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick93
Rnd3
Trevor Lauck
Taking Trevor Lauck in slot 93 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94
Rnd3
Will Echoles
Circle this one: Will Echoles at pick No. 94 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Greg Johnson
They robbed the room for Greg Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick118
Rnd4
LJ Martin
A straight-up fair deal on LJ Martin at pick No. 118, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick138
Rnd5
Devin McCuin
No edge and no loss on Devin McCuin in Round 5, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153
Rnd5
Nicholas Rodriguez
Nicholas Rodriguez at the 153rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jacob Ponton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jacob Ponton in slot 186. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Adon Shuler
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Adon Shuler in pick 245, plain and simple. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick254
Rnd7
Landen Hatchett
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Landen Hatchett at No. 254 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
