McCarthy is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: B.

The Bears spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and linebacker still on the board.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
