Overall B-

Good, not great, for the Patriots: B-.

The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Kenyatta Jackson Jr., 32 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 28 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at pick 92 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
They reached into another round for J.C. Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
They read the board right and Domani Jackson was the payoff at No. 128. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick168 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at the 168th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195 Rnd6 Duce Robinson
They will replay Duce Robinson at No. 195 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick206 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Payton. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216 Rnd7 Jahiem White
By-the-book stuff, Jahiem White at the 216th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242 Rnd7 Nolan Rucci
They took Nolan Rucci at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
