The Jets found their guy under center in Mendoza: B-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Jets' quarterback, full stop.

However the rest shakes out, Leavitt at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had White lower, and that gap is the story.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32 Rnd1 David Bailey
In No. 32 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 KC Concepcion
No drama and no debate, KC Concepcion went about where he belonged in pick 36. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick44 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at Round 2, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick105 Rnd4 Sam Leavitt
Taking Sam Leavitt in the 105th pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
A slide stopped in pick No. 178, with Davison Igbinosun worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick192 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in slot 192 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick202 Rnd6 Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at the 202nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick208 Rnd6 Makhi Hughes
A straight-up fair deal on Makhi Hughes at the 208th pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237 Rnd7 DeAndre Moore Jr.
Nice patience on DeAndre Moore Jr., who had no business lasting to the 237th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jordan White
They talked themselves into Jordan White at pick No. 253, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick254 Rnd7 Lawson Luckie
They took Lawson Luckie at par in slot 254, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
