Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

There is reaching, and then there is Oluwafemi Oladejo at pick No. 149. The Bears jumped the board by 87 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Getting Noel where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Grey Zabel
In pick 20 they get a building block for the line, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
A tidy bit of business in No. 39, where Malaki Starks graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick45 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
A straight-up fair deal on JT Tuimoloau at slot 45, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick50 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Fair-plus on Kaleb Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick51 Rnd2 Josaiah Stewart
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josaiah Stewart. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Deone Walker in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They paid a round early for Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 18, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 121st pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149 Rnd5 Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at No. 149 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick197 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick No. 197 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevor Etienne at the 234th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick235 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
They went early on Hunter Wohler in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick236 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
By-the-book stuff, Marcus Yarns at pick 236 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242 Rnd7 Clay Webb
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in slot 242, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
