Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The Steelers spent real capital to be 60 picks early on Drew Allar, and the board is going to hold them to it. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McNeil-Warren.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
A reach on Ja'Kobi Lane in the 53rd pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76 Rnd3 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at slot 76 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 85 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 21 is lovely value for the cornerback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in No. 135 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker at the 159th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
By-the-book stuff, Fernando Carmona at slot 213 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick214 Rnd6 PJ Williams
PJ Williams in the 214th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick224 Rnd7 Hykeem Williams
No edge and no loss on Hykeem Williams in Round 7, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jaylon Braxton
Jaylon Braxton in pick 237 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
