Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Ravens robbed the room for Dixon. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Ravens were there to profit. Thaddeus Dixon, the No. 215 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 249th pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Kelly to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In No. 14 they get a green-dot type in the middle, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel Pregnon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
Circle this one: D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 80 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jack Endries
They did well to land Jack Endries in pick 115, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick152
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers at slot 152 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jude Bowry
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Jude Bowry for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kaleb Proctor
Good price on Kaleb Proctor in the 172nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173
Rnd5
Matt Gulbin
A conviction pick on Matt Gulbin at Round 5, Pick 35 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
Somehow Thaddeus Dixon was still sitting there in pick No. 249, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jack Kelly
They paid up for Jack Kelly at pick 252 when waiting would have done the job. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
