FutureB-
The Cowboys fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Caullin Lacy at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 59 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Weigman pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 18th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Colton Hood
In pick 24 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at the 49th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick70
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in No. 70 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
The board had Nicholas Singleton higher than slot 97, and the running back fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zachariah Branch in pick No. 112. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
A big swing on DJ Campbell at No. 139, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Good price on Davison Igbinosun in pick No. 150, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd5
Charles Jagusah
No edge and no loss on Charles Jagusah in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caullin Lacy
Caullin Lacy at the 215th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick221
Rnd7
Ahmaad Moses
No drama and no debate, Ahmaad Moses went about where he belonged in the 221st pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick225
Rnd7
Conner Weigman
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Conner Weigman in slot 225, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
