Draft Grade — Chargers

FutureB+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent the 256th pick on Ethan Downs, a name the board had a full 34 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
On value alone, West makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro slipping to the 94th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick125
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
By-the-book stuff, Kyle Williams at pick 125 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They jumped the gun on Seth McLaughlin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
They took Jack Kiser at par in the 181st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick209
Rnd6
CJ West
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like CJ West reach Round 6, Pick 33 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick214
Rnd6
Addison West
Addison West at pick No. 214 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick250
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
A slide stopped in pick 250, with Bilhal Kone worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ethan Downs well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
