Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

ValueA

FutureA+
The Browns won the night they stopped Echoles from sliding. Grade: A-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Will Echoles tumbling to the Browns in Round 2, Pick 17 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Browns clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Will Echoles
They will replay Will Echoles at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jamari Johnson
Jamari Johnson at pick No. 55 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kewan Lacy
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kewan Lacy in slot 62, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at No. 80 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick93
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
The board fumbled Greg Johnson all the way to Round 3, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
By-the-book stuff, Dylan Raiola at the 120th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125
Rnd4
Mike Matthews
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Matthews in pick 125. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Tony Rojas
No drama and no debate, Tony Rojas went about where he belonged in the 128th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
