Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Singer: A.

You could see the war room lean forward. Dorian Singer at pick 225 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They are betting Spann-Ford proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Adding Ali Marpet by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Bottom line, with JC Latham leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 JC Latham
In pick No. 19 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Johnny Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick37 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 37 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick51 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
They read the board right and T.J. Tampa was the payoff at No. 51. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68 Rnd3 Denzel Burke
A reasonable price with a little left over, Denzel Burke in slot 68. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104 Rnd4 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse slipping to the 104th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick141 Rnd5 Sataoa Laumea
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at the 141st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick182 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 182 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick225 Rnd7 Dorian Singer
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Dorian Singer in No. 225, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
