FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the 49ers. Nobody had Mason Reiger this high, and it is not close. The 49ers reached 65 spots to get him at pick No. 133. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Fair-plus on Christen Miller, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A safety of that caliber at pick 58 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick72
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Eli Stowers at No. 72. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Taking Connor Lew in slot 92 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers in the 110th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Mason Reiger
A real head-scratcher, Mason Reiger in the 133rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick138
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
A wild overpay on Vincent Anthony Jr. in pick No. 138, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick187
Rnd6
Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
TJ Hall
They did well to land TJ Hall in Round 7, Pick 10, just ahead of his grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
