Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB+
NeedB-
TradesD+
FutureB+
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Texans left running back untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Lambert-Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bond. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In slot 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick89
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
They let Isaiah Bond come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 25. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton is a better player than No. 127 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick167
Rnd5
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 167th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
