FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Jets and Fitzgerald: B. The Jets did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ryan Fitzgerald fell into No. 209. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick No. 7 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in slot 53, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick84
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond at the 84th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Steal is underselling it; Omarr Norman-Lott at pick 92 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick109
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
They robbed the room for Aeneas Peebles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Elijah Arroyo
You do not let a tight end like Elijah Arroyo reach the 146th overall pick and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick157
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Somehow Barrett Carter was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick158
Rnd5
Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in No. 158 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick188
Rnd6
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in the 188th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209
Rnd6
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in pick 209 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
