Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureA-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bears.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Bears did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The cost of the Batty reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
Laiatu Latu at No. 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 D.J. James
D.J. James slipping to pick 75 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the 110th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127 Rnd4 Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146 Rnd5 Tyler Batty
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Batty well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
