Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D+
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
Daniels is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D+. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Sanders at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Alvin Kamara leading the way.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 9 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick14
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In No. 14 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia slipping to the 62nd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72
Rnd3
T'Vondre Sweat
Nice patience on T'Vondre Sweat, who had no business lasting to pick No. 72. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They will replay Ja'Tavion Sanders at Round 3, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick112
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at the 122nd overall pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden slid further than he should have, and slot 146 is lovely value for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
