Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The 49ers robbed the room for Bowman Jr.. Final grade: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Billy Bowman Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 185.

They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Adding Jaylon Johnson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the 75th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99 Rnd3 Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at Round 3, Pick 35 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 Shemar Turner
A reach for Shemar Turner in the 111th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick137 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
A running back of that caliber at slot 137 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185 Rnd6 Billy Bowman Jr.
Taking Billy Bowman Jr. in pick 185 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick226 Rnd7 Clay Webb
They paid up for Clay Webb at the 226th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick230 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
They barely believed it either: Theo Wease Jr. still on the board at No. 230. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Gentry Williams
Gentry Williams in the 249th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick255 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
They paid sticker price for Shilo Sanders in pick No. 255, and that is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
