Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
D-
ValueB

TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chiefs to a D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chiefs, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Louis reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
However the rest shakes out, Klare at that price is a win they earned. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, offensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
David Bailey
In slot 9 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick21
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In the 21st pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
Brandon Cisse in No. 40 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Max Klare
They let Max Klare come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 8. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in pick 74 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Nice patience on Zachariah Branch, who had no business lasting to the 121st overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
They paid sticker price for Mike Washington Jr. in pick No. 127, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
They went early on Kyle Louis in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 8, where DeMonte Capehart graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176
Rnd5
Thaddeus Dixon
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Thaddeus Dixon. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
