Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B- to prove it. The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jay Higgins, the No. 123 name on the board, in slot 223. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Leonard has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In pick 24 they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in Round 2, Pick 21 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in the 84th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88
Rnd3
David Walker
They talked themselves into David Walker at the 88th overall pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 120 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DeMonte Capehart. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
They barely believed it either: Jay Higgins still on the board at pick No. 223. The roster fit checks out.
Pick229
Rnd7
Germie Bernard
This one needs a full-page explanation: Germie Bernard in pick 229, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick242
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A reach on Garrett Dellinger in slot 242; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick250
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
Fentrell Cypress II at Round 7, Pick 34 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
