Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins clearly saw something nobody else did in Donovan Smith, taking him 39 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

That Emmanwori pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 13th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick48 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Taking Nick Emmanwori in the 48th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick98 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 34. It fills a real need, too.
Pick116 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at pick 116 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135 Rnd4 Tyler Baron
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Baron this early at pick No. 135. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150 Rnd5 Mello Dotson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mello Dotson in the Round 5 slot. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick155 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
A reach for Kyle Williams in the 155th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick224 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
No edge and no loss on Desmond Watson in slot 224; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick231 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
A wild overpay on Donovan Smith in the 231st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253 Rnd7 Logan Parr
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Logan Parr well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
