FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B- to prove it. The war room fell hard for Jackson Hawes, and it showed at slot 231: 29 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Leonard at that price is a win they earned. With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 16 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick78
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at pick 78, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Zy Alexander at pick No. 98 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Jordan Phillips worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher to take Jacob Parrish, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick135
Rnd4
Cody Simon
Cody Simon slipping to Round 4, Pick 33 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 150 is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick152
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in the 152nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick155
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt at Round 5, Pick 17 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Kyle Monangai graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Hawes in the 231st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick253
Rnd7
Nick Martin
They reached into another round for Nick Martin, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
