The phones sank the Browns this weekend: D. There is reaching, and then there is Trey Moore at pick 147. The Browns jumped the board by 114 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
They took Jeremiyah Love at par in Round 1, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick11
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kevin Coleman Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kevin Coleman Jr.. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
A wild overpay on Domonique Orange in pick 65, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101
Rnd3
Austin Romaine
They reached into another round for Austin Romaine, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick140
Rnd5
Kelby Collins
Kelby Collins at slot 140 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147
Rnd5
Trey Moore
Trey Moore at Round 5, Pick 9 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick214
Rnd6
Elliot Washington II
A real head-scratcher, Elliot Washington II in pick 214 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jordan White
They jumped the gun on Jordan White, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
