Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: D-.

Nobody else had Sedrick Van Pran anywhere near No. 43. The Bears did, by 49 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots stayed open.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick110 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
A reach for Kris Abrams-Draine in the 110th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at the 125th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick146 Rnd5 McCallan Castles
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McCallan Castles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
