Draft Grade — Bears

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Starks: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Malaki Starks got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the Round 2 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In pick No. 17 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
By-the-book stuff, Tyleik Williams at No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick57 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard in slot 72 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
The board had Jared Wilson higher than the 119th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
They paid sticker price for Pat Bryant in Round 5, Pick 10, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
They robbed the room for Donovan Edwards here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick240 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
They went early on Teddye Buchanan in pick 240, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
