FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a D. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Josh Cuevas, 45 picks early at No. 196. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Golday value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The roster is better shaped than it was, with tight end chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 22nd pick they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot.
Pick57
Rnd2
Keith Abney II
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 25, where Keith Abney II graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
A tidy little value on Lee Hunter in No. 65, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jake Golday
Circle this one: Jake Golday at the 104th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick126
Rnd4
Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in pick 126. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
Good price on Jakobe Thomas in slot 129, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
The board had cheaper options than Davison Igbinosun at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick185
Rnd6
Nate Boerkircher
Nate Boerkircher in the 185th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick196
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
Josh Cuevas at No. 196 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick223
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
They reached a country mile for Trey Zuhn III at the 223rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
