Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Falcons let Smith-Wade fall into their laps, and walked away with a D-.

The phones were a trap the Falcons kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Smith-Wade pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 1 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick43 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at slot 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Josh Newton
No edge and no loss on Josh Newton in pick No. 79; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick199 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
They robbed the room for Chau Smith-Wade here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
