Edskmo DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
The 49ers let Melton fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. The needs board said one thing and the 49ers did another, using the Round 3 slot on Max Melton while wide receiver, running back and other spots waited. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Melton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In the 31st pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
Max Melton
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Max Melton while clear needs at wide receiver, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick124
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A clean, defensible pick in the 124th overall pick with a little surplus value in Javon Foster. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 131 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
James Williams
A tidy bit of business in pick 133, where James Williams graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
