Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Dolphins won the night they stopped Golday from sliding. Grade: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Dolphins came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Landing Golday that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Kilgore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and running back.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
By-the-book stuff, Jermod McCoy at pick No. 11 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick43
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 11 with a little surplus value in Emmanuel Pregnon. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Somehow Jake Golday was still sitting there in No. 87, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
They will replay Zachariah Branch at pick 91 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick116
Rnd4
Carson Beck
Value with a capital V on Carson Beck in slot 116, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bishop Fitzgerald in the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick120
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in the 120th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jalon Kilgore adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman and running back untouched.
Pick149
Rnd5
Isaiah World
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah World at slot 149 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick153
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Kevin Coleman Jr. at pick 153, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick158
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
No drama and no debate, Eric Rivers went about where he belonged in No. 158. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson at pick No. 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227
Rnd7
Miles Kitselman
Nothing to complain about; Miles Kitselman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at the 236th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
