Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

TradesA+
FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman and cornerback stayed open. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Travis reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jordan Morgan and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In No. 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
In pick No. 31 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 12 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in the 58th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at slot 75 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A want over a need in pick 85: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while interior defensive lineman and cornerback keeps waiting.
Pick110
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in the 110th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122
Rnd4
Malik Washington
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 22 with a little surplus value in Malik Washington. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
They paid up for Jordan Travis at pick No. 123 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They jumped the gun on Cedric Gray, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick142
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at slot 142 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in No. 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
