Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureC+
The jury is out on the 49ers. For now, C+.

The 49ers torched the value chart for Jackson Slater, taking him 33 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

The Huzzie pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In No. 18 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in slot 43 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Good price on Elijah Arroyo in pick 75, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick82 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A reach on Darius Alexander in Round 3, Pick 18; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
They paid up for Anthony Belton at pick No. 100 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Slater in the 113th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
They reached into another round for DJ Giddens, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in slot 160 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Value said wait; Jay Higgins in the 176th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A quiet steal in pick 203: KeAndre Lambert-Smith for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
Nice patience on Alijah Huzzie, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 11. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
