Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says D.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bears, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They are betting Powers-Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 2nd pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick No. 9 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A big swing on Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 43, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They went early on Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 3, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the 75th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots for later.
