The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Rosemy-Jacksaint: B. The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the No. 198 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
They will need Ford to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Their trades came out a wash either way.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Somehow Jordan Morgan was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 27, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
They took Bucky Irving at par in pick No. 86, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at slot 124 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at No. 159 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 198th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick231
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick 231 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick242
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at the 242nd overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246
Rnd7
Evan Williams
Evan Williams in Round 7, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick250
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 250th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
