Draft Grade — Rams
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Newton should have been long gone. The Rams pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in No. 196 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Rams sat still while Josh Newton, the No. 122 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The Ali pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In pick 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 52 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57 Rnd2 DJ James
DJ James at the 57th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick83 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks slipping to the 99th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing at slot 154 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 19 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196 Rnd6 Josh Newton
Somehow Josh Newton was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick209 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
A reach on JD Bertrand in the 209th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick213 Rnd6 Ro Torrence
They barely believed it either: Ro Torrence still on the board at pick 213. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick217 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
Taking Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 217 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220 Rnd6 Rasheen Ali
They reached a country mile for Rasheen Ali at the 220th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254 Rnd7 KT Leveston
Value with a capital V on KT Leveston in pick No. 254, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
