Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Lions, and a B- to prove it.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Denzel Burke in No. 62, a good 27 spots before the room expected him. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

On value alone, White III makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In slot 28 they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick62 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
They talked themselves into Denzel Burke at the Round 2 slot, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick101 Rnd3 Jake Majors
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Majors at pick No. 101, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in No. 108 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at Round 4, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick 198 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ricky White III
You do not let a wide receiver like Ricky White III reach the 227th overall pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick230 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
They reached into another round for Torricelli Simpkins III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick246 Rnd7 Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith in pick 246 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
