Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
B-
ValueC

TradesA+
FutureC+
The Lions turned the phones into found money: B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Lions started one anyway for D'Antre Robinson, 85 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Fitzgerald at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with wide receiver open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kelley Jones
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kelley Jones at cornerback with wide receiver open.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tae Johnson
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tae Johnson adds a safety and leaves wide receiver untouched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
Samson Okunlola at No. 90 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101
Rnd3
Xavier Atkins
Xavier Atkins at pick No. 101 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102
Rnd3
Anto Saka
Value said wait; Anto Saka in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Sahir West
A curious use of the 127th overall pick. Wide receiver needed the pick; an interior defensive lineman in Sahir West did not.
Pick129
Rnd4
Kameryn Crawford
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kameryn Crawford in pick 129, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130
Rnd4
Ian Moore
Ian Moore at slot 130 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Robert Fitzgerald
Robert Fitzgerald in the 174th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick201
Rnd6
Dylan Raiola
Dylan Raiola at pick No. 201 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick205
Rnd6
Kayin Lee
The board had Kayin Lee higher than Round 6, Pick 25, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick206
Rnd6
Stephiylan Green
Stephiylan Green in No. 206 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
They reached a country mile for Andrew Rappleyea at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jake Guarnera
A conviction pick on Jake Guarnera at the 216th overall pick that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick218
Rnd6
D'Antre Robinson
D'Antre Robinson at pick No. 218 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick220
Rnd6
Jeremiah Cobb
Jeremiah Cobb in Round 6, Pick 40 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
