Draft Grade — Lions

FutureC+
The Lions turned the phones into found money: B-. The Lions looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took AJ Green at the 114th overall pick regardless, 72 picks early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Getting Alexander where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The Lions paired the rookies with proven help, Travis Hunter leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
KJ Bolden
In slot 32 they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot.
Pick38
Rnd2
Kelley Jones
The board had cheaper options than Kelley Jones at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jayden Maiava
They paid sticker price for Jayden Maiava in No. 70, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick78
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
Samson Okunlola in pick No. 78 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick83
Rnd3
Adam Trick
A real head-scratcher, Adam Trick in the 83rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in Round 3, Pick 24 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick89
Rnd3
Raylen Wilson
A reach on Raylen Wilson in the 89th pick; the board had better options right there. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jaylen McClain
They took Jaylen McClain at par in the 90th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick91
Rnd3
Anto Saka
Anto Saka at pick No. 91 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick96
Rnd3
Kameryn Crawford
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kameryn Crawford well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick110
Rnd4
Myles Graham
They paid a round early for Myles Graham in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick114
Rnd4
AJ Green
This one needs a full-page explanation: AJ Green in No. 114, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Blake Frazier
Blake Frazier at Round 4, Pick 29 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick142
Rnd5
Earl Little Jr.
They robbed the room for Earl Little Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jordan Marshall
They went early on Jordan Marshall in Round 5, Pick 7, and the value did not follow. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick148
Rnd5
Ezra Christensen
Ezra Christensen in pick 148 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Jermaine Mathews Jr.. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Benjamin Brahmer
They left a pile of value on the table to take Benjamin Brahmer this early at No. 177. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick208
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
Andrew Rappleyea at the 208th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick216
Rnd6
Sammy Omosigho
No drama and no debate, Sammy Omosigho went about where he belonged in the 216th pick. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick226
Rnd7
Cody Jackson
They jumped the gun on Cody Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick236
Rnd7
Stephiylan Green
A conviction pick on Stephiylan Green at slot 236 that the board grades a round light. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick245
Rnd7
D'Antre Robinson
D'Antre Robinson at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jay'Vion Cole
You do not let a cornerback like Jay'Vion Cole reach the 255th overall pick and blink. They did not. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick256
Rnd7
Tree Babalade
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tree Babalade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
