FutureB
The Lions worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. The Lions went off the board in a big way for Kameryn Crawford, 51 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Alexander pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Spears pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with running back and wide receiver still on the board.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kelley Jones
In the 28th overall pick they get an island corner, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Dashawn Spears
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 2 slot on Dashawn Spears with running back and wide receiver unsolved.
Pick89
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
Samson Okunlola in pick 89 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick101
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Bear Alexander adds an interior defensive lineman and leaves running back and wide receiver untouched.
Pick102
Rnd3
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at the 102nd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jaylen McClain
A surprising call. With running back and wide receiver still to address, they spent No. 112 on Jaylen McClain, a safety they were not short of.
Pick127
Rnd4
Sahir West
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Sahir West at interior defensive lineman with running back and wide receiver open.
Pick129
Rnd4
Kameryn Crawford
Kameryn Crawford at the 129th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Blake Frazier
Value said wait; Blake Frazier in the 135th pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Dylan Raiola
A wild overpay on Dylan Raiola in pick No. 194, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick205
Rnd6
Benjamin Brahmer
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Benjamin Brahmer well ahead of where he belonged. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick206
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
Andrew Rappleyea in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick208
Rnd6
Francis Brewu
A real head-scratcher, Francis Brewu in No. 208 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick251
Rnd7
Stephiylan Green
A big swing on Stephiylan Green at slot 251, well ahead of any board in the building. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick257
Rnd7
D'Antre Robinson
They reached into another round for D'Antre Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
